See you at Daniel O'Connell's at 1205 Wellington this Friday!

The imaginary Story of Lisgar O’Connor

One night after a gig, Bill and Sly were sitting at a restaurant,
waiting to order.

– Now think, said Bill, you must eat the right food.
– Yes, the right food, distractedly agreed Sly while reading the
menu.
– Like folic acid…
– Folic acid? Don’t we get enough of that from rain and snow,
inquired Sly?
– Not that kind of acid! Folic acid; it helps fight depression, among
other things, retorted Bill.
– And where do you find folic acid, wondered Sly?
– Well, you find a healthy person — like our waitress — whom
you catch, cook and eat, said Bill. Then you’ll get folic acid and all
the nutrients you need.
– Ah, yes… Doctor Hannibal Lector’s Miracle Diet, I heard of it.
But aren’t there other less drastic ways, asked Sly?
– Well, folic acid is also found in beans, oranges, wheat, bran,
green vegetables, poultry, pork, shellfish and liver, answered Bill.
– All right then, I’ll have a chicken sandwich on brown with a
salad, said Sly.

There’s the hard way and the easy way. Choose well. Won’t you
come and see us at Daniel O’Connell’s?

January 28 and 29: a busy weekend for Lisgar O’Connor - Daniel O’Connell’s Pub

Like we said before, Daniel O’Connell’s is like a second home to us. The staff and patrons are always happy to see us and it’s always a pleasure to play to such an appreciative public. However, we also had two very special guests last Friday.

We had the infinite pleasure to jam with James Hill, Canada’s ukulele virtuoso, “one of the world’s top composers for the ukulele and probably the best player on the planet”, according to 600AM’s Rafe Mair in Vancouver. James joined us on “Summertime” and interpreted two more songs for a delighted audience. Check out James’ Website http://www.ukulelejames.com/ and don’t miss his upcoming show at the Petit Chicago, 50 promenade du Portage www.petitchicago.com in Hull, this Saturday, February 5, at 9:00 PM.

Then we were fortunate to have Julie Element from Coventry, England, singing a few of her own compositions and explaining how to recycle former lovers into pints of Guinness! Julie, a regular at many open stages in Ottawa, will be playing at O’Connell’s on Saturday February 26.
Finally, there was that young lady from North Bay who was celebrating her birthday and who decided to come to O’Connell’s with her party after a game of bowling. Somebody requested we sang Happy Birthday, so Bill invited the blushing birthday girl to sit right in front of Sly who sang this immortal song à la Marilyn Monroe.

Le Dépanneur Sylvestre

Well, Lisgar O’Connor has played in all kinds of places for all kinds of people in the past, but it was the first time we played in a convenience store! The Dépanneur Sylvestre (9, rue Fortier, in Hull. Check out the NFB’s site about the Dépanneur at www.onf.ca/depanneursylvestre is truly an amazing space. Yeah, it’s a convenience store, but they also sell used clothes in the back and they have this great room sitting about 50 people where every week they feature local music acts.

We were really blessed with a great and appreciative public over there. People were listening, singing along and even dancing in the back.

Sylvain broke a string at the end of the first set (something that hasn’t happened since 1979!) and the lovely Brigitte took the opportunity to jump on stage and sing a few of her very, very uplifting songs. Thank you so much Brigitte for helping us out Saturday.

The Dépanneur Sylvestre also sells its own brand of beer (La pitoune de Hull) a tasty double-brewed honey beer. Try it, it’s quite good.
A busy and enjoyable weekend it was! Our next confirmed gig is Friday February 25 at Daniel O’Connell’s. Check this Weblog often for more details.
